LAW & JUSTICE COMMITTEE
There is currently an open position for a Ponca Tribal member and a member from the legal area. The duties of this committee are as follows:
- To act as a liaison between the Tribal Court and Tribal Council;
- To oversee the budget of the Tribal Court and make recommendations to the Tribal Council regarding the same;
- To provide oversight of the Tribal Court and make recommendations to the Tribal Council relating to the operations and growth of the Court, including additional dispute resolution methods;
- To review complaints of judicial misconduct or disability under the Code of Judicial Conduct or other applicable rules or statutes of conduct governing the Judges and Justices of the Tribal Court, hold public fact-finding hearings when such complaints are supported by probable cause with the Judge or Justice given a full opportunity to defend and be heard with legal counsel and, if such hearing reveals clear, cogent and convincing evidence of a violation, to publicly admonish, reprimand or censure the Judge or Justice or recommend suspension or removal from office in accordance with the laws of the Tribe;
- To make recommendations on amendments to the Rules of Court to the Tribal Council and establish such rules in the absence of Tribal Council action as permitted herein;
- To approve Rules of Court governing or related to judicial conduct as provided herein;
- To set filing fees for the Tribal Court as permitted herein;
- To provide annual evaluations of the Judges and Justices of the Tribal Court and provide the same to the Tribal Council and members of the Tribe;
- To make recommendations to the Tribal Council regarding amendments, modifications, and additions to this Code; and
- Such other duties and responsibilities as the Tribal Council may from time designate.
Members receive a $250 stipend, plus mileage at the approved government rate, not to exceed 410 miles. Please submit a letter of interest and resume to apply. Deadline to apply is September 1, 2021.
LANGUAGE & CULTURE COMMITTEE
There is currently an open position for District 4 on the Language & Culture Committee for a term to expire on 3/9/24. Some of the responsibilities of this committee are:
- To provide guidance to the Culture Department and Language Program with long-term planning, programming, and the use of traditional knowledge.
- To generate culturally-appropriate programming to increase tribal involvement on culture and language activities and create a sustainable culture and language program for tribal members inside and outside the SDAs.
- To act as a resource for Tribal departments to create culturally-based programming by providing guidance, knowledge, wisdom, and expertise on Ponca culture, traditions, history, and beliefs.
- To assist the Ponca Tribal government in the formulation of policies and procedures pertaining to the Ponca Language, culture, and history.
- To review and approve all Ponca culturally related educational material, such as instructional materials and modern communication media productions, to be used to provide instruction to
- To review and reserve approval on all other activities and tasks related to the Ponca language, history, and culture as may be referred the Committee.
- To periodically assess and review the Language Program and provide such assessments to the Tribal Council.

PONCA TAX COMMISSION
There is currently an open position on the Tax Commission with a term to expire on 4/24/22. The Ponca Tax Commission is charged with the administration and enforcement of all tribal tax laws. Commissioners are paid a $250.00 stipend per meeting plus mileage reimbursement at the government approved rate up to 410 miles roundtrip. Please submit a letter of interest and resume to apply. POW WOW COMMITTEE
There are three terms on the Pow Wow Committee that will be expiring on 9/30/21 so letters of interest are being accepted at this time. Committee members are paid a $250.00 stipend plus mileage reimbursement up to 410 miles at the current federally approved rate. If you are interested in serving please submit your letter of interest.
