Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act-Indian and Native American

Employment, Training & Career Support

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act-Indian and Native American Program can assist eligible adult Native Americans living in Nebraska and actively seeking employment, education, or training (must be enrolled in a tribe, or eligible for Ponca Health Services).

WIOA-INA
  • Academic and Career CounselingIndividuals can take an interest inventory and discuss results with staff. Staff members are able to talk with individuals about possible career paths and ways to achieve goals.
  • Resume DevelopmentStaff can assist individuals with creating and/or revising resumes.
  • Interview CoachingResources to assist with interview preparation as well as practice interviews with staff are available.
  • Computer labsEach office has a computer available that can be used for researching job openings and online applications.
  • Bus passesIn areas where public bus transportation is available, WIOA can provide a limited number of bus passes for individuals to use for job seeking and to travel to work.
  • Required work clothingFor employed participants, WIOA can provide limited assistance with the purchase of work clothing or footwear not provided by the employer as documented by the company dress code.
  • Required tool/equipment assistanceFor employed participants, WIOA can provide limited assistance with the purchase of tools or equipment as documented by the company as being required and not provided by the employer.
  • Tuition/book assistanceFor participants attending an accredited post-secondary school or training leading to a recognized credential, WIOA can provide limited assistance with tuition and/or the purchase of required books or materials as documented by the student syllabus or specific instructions of the educator.
  • Other supportive services as determinedIn limited circumstances, WIOA may provide additional supportive services determined to be required by the participant in order to maintain their employment.

Eligibility

  • Indian/Native American, 18 years or older, residing in Nebraska, or Charles Mix County, SD
  • Unemployed and actively seeking employment.
  • Under-employed, working part-time but desires full-time employment
  • Low-income (eligible for benefits such as SNAP or TANF).
  • The recipient of a bona fide lay-off notice.
  • An individual who is employed, but in need of employment and training services to obtain or retain employment that allows for self-sufficiency.
