Ponca Tribe of Nebraska celebrates 36th Anniversary of federal restoration
Thirty-six years ago, the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska achieved a significant milestone: restoring its federal recognition.
After being terminated in 1962, the Northern Ponca Nation refused to let that be the end of its story. Through relentless grassroots advocacy and unwavering determination, tribal members fought to reclaim our sovereignty and inherent rights.
This historic achievement was made possible through the persistent advocacy of the Restoration Committee, tribal leadership, community members, and key local, state, and federal partners. Their determination rebuilt the foundation for generations to come. Today, that legacy powers extraordinary progress. Spanning Nebraska and Iowa, the Tribe operates five administrative offices, three health clinics, an award-winning transit system, a thriving housing agency, business enterprises, and an independent judicial system. With nearly 500 employees and growing, the Ponca Tribe stands strong as a vital economic engine and regional leader.
Happy 36th Anniversary of Restoration, Ponca citizens and friends of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska!
