LAW AND ORDER CODE REVISION

The Ponca Tribal Council will be proposing significant amendments to Title I General Provisions of the Law and Order Code. A good portion of Title I will be amended. The revisions are being considered to enhance the sovereignty of the Ponca Tribe.
The change being proposed is to amend Title I General Provisions. The revisions being considered include, but are not limited to the following:
- Adding a chapter on Boards and Commissions
- Changing the Terms of Pro Tempore Judges from 1 year to 2 years
- Adding Juneteenth as a holiday
- Adding Perjury to the Chapter on Contempt
- Enhancing the chapter on Sovereignty and Immunity
- Adding a chapter on Tribal Contracts
- Adding to the chapter regarding Conduct on Tribal Property

There will be a discussion by Tribal Council that is open for public comment on October 7,2025 at 4:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as it may be heard.
