LAW AND ORDER CODE REVISION

During Tribal Council Meeting

* NOTICE: All Tribal Members*

The Ponca Tribal Council will be proposing significant amendments to Title I General Provisions of the Law and Order Code. A good portion of Title I will be amended. The revisions are being considered to enhance the sovereignty of the Ponca Tribe.

The change being proposed is to amend Title I General Provisions. The revisions being considered include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Adding a chapter on Boards and Commissions
  • Changing the Terms of Pro Tempore Judges from 1 year to 2 years
  • Adding Juneteenth as a holiday
  • Adding Perjury to the Chapter on Contempt
  • Enhancing the chapter on Sovereignty and Immunity
  • Adding a chapter on Tribal Contracts
  • Adding to the chapter regarding Conduct on Tribal Property

There will be a discussion by Tribal Council that is open for public comment on October 7,2025 at 4:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as it may be heard.
