The First Reading of Title 1 will be on the Tribal Council meeting schedule for August 17, 2026. There are significant amendments to Title I General Provisions of the Law and Order Code. The majority of Title I will be amended. The revisions are being considered to enhance the sovereignty of the Ponca Tribe.
Title I General Provisions will be significantly revised. The revisions being considered include,
but are not limited to the following:
- Changing the Terms of Pro Tempore Judges from 1 year to 2 years
- Adding Perjury to the Chapter on Contempt
- Enhancing the chapter on Sovereignty and Immunity
- Adding a chapter on Tribal Contracts
- Adding to the chapter regarding Conduct on Tribal Property
